HANGI - On Thursday Ilam School put down a Hangi. Please check out the photos about the process. The children were very interested in everything that happened.

First you dig a pit in the ground

Luke fits into the hole.

The food is prepared in the tech room 

The trays are ready to go

The trays are packed with the food

The wood is burned in the pit so that the irons are heated up ready to do the cooking.

The food is put into trays and lowered into the hole

The food is covered with some wet sheets...

and wet sacks and then...

everything is covered with earth.

This creates an oven with lots of steam and the food is cooked in the hole under the soil.
