As part of out Plant Study we have been to visit the Community Garden at the University. It is called the Okeover Garden. Matt the head gardener was there and he showed us around. Winter is a quiet time for plants but there were still lots of things growing. He was very impressed with Room 16's knowledge about plants and he answered all our questions. We know that some plants only grow in New Zealand because of the type of climate we have here. We knew that plants need lots of things to grow like sun, water and soil. We know that plants are important for earth because they help provide oxygen for us to breathe and they feed us. We learned that plants are found everywhere and heaps of other stuff. Thank you also to our super parents who came along to help us. You are all amazing.
If you look hard enough you will see garlic growing.
Thanks wonderful helpers.
The compost takes 6 months to break down and become wonderful soil to grow things in.
You certainly found out about some interesting things from Matt at the University gardens. What an amazing visit you must have had. So many different plants and so many different places to plant them. You all look so interested and I'm sure your observing skills were working hard!
